Kirkpatrick Ironwork
Kirkpatrick Ironwork – For 150 years Kirkpatrick have been hand making malleable iron products at their foundry in Walsall using the greensand casting process. They also produce cast iron items, but it is their antique malleable ironwork that sets them apart from the competition. Objects are cast in iron, annealed using an inert haematite ore in huge ovens where they heat soak for 80 hours at temperatures of 960 degrees. These are then subjected to shot blasting and grinding to clean up the castings before assembly, then rust proofed with stove dried paint and finally a black powder coating process. Kirkpatrick’s range is so comprehensive that in recent years they have had to trim down their catalogue to keep up with demand, but even now thay boast several hundred products in their range.
